FE Tool Identification
Select and validate the Field Engineering platform suited to your device, your site footprint, and your regulatory obligations.
Overview
Field Engineering tools are not interchangeable. The one that works for a copier fleet will fail on the first device that requires calibration records or controlled spare parts inventory. The one built for industrial heavy equipment will buckle under FDA evidence requirements.
We evaluate the FE platform landscape against your specific device profile (calibration cadence, parts criticality, geographic dispersion, and regulatory evidence needs) and recommend the platform that will survive your first audit, not just your first deployment.
Our Process
-
1
Operational scoping
Device classification, calibration regime, parts criticality, geographic footprint, technician skill mix.
-
2
Regulatory scoping
Required evidence: calibration records, parts traceability, technician credentialing, signed-off work orders.
-
3
Vendor shortlist
Score the FE platform landscape against scope. Common candidates: ServiceMax, Salesforce Field Service, FieldAware, IFS.
-
4
Hands-on evaluation
Pilot the shortlist on a small site set. Capture real friction, not vendor demos.
-
5
Decision memo & rollout plan
Defensible recommendation with rollout phasing, integration sequence, and validation plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the evaluation?
Typically 6-8 weeks: 1 week scoping, 3-4 weeks evaluation and pilot, 2 weeks decision and rollout plan.
What if we have a legacy in-house FE tool?
We assess whether to extend, migrate, or replace. Legacy tools sometimes win on integration breadth. We are not biased toward replacement.
Is the chosen platform Part 11 compliant?
Most major FE platforms can be configured to meet Part 11. We document the compensating controls where the platform alone does not.
Can this work for distributor-led service?
Yes. We design the platform to span direct and distributor technicians with appropriate access controls.
